Christmas, By the Numbers

By Samuel John Klein On 24th December 2005 @ 20:10 In Cartography, News | No Comments

Strange and wonderful numbers from the US Census

From the ‘blog [1] Mapz: a GIS Librarian, we find that GISUser.com has compiled, for our general edification, a list of Christmas statistics that may have your eyes glaze over even before you sit down at the Holiday table.

Did you know that my home state, Oregon, is #1 in Christmas Trees?

Or that $31.9 billion dollars were taken in by retailers over the month of December 2004?

Or that about 20 billion cards, letters, and packages are posted in the USA between Thanksgiving and Christmas?

[2] GISUser.com has the story here: food, as they say, for thought.

Have a happy 2006.
