Using Google Maps to mash up individal members, website creates community of users
Just what exactly is a Vlog? No, it’s not Dracula’s website; it’s a video blog or, to state perhaps the obvious, a weblog with video content. And vlogging has its own map-based home on the web: Vlogmap.org.
It’s an advanced example of the mashup; not only does the site plot data from its own data set (registered vlog members) on the Google map, providing ways to click each individual pin and obtain information and a link to the indvidual member, but allows visitors with vlogs who want to enter in to the community to join the party too. All the Google map functionality is there; panning, zooming, satellite imagery and map.
It is also an entry point of sorts to the world of vlogging; the “about” page features links on how one can start thier own vlog, and links allow for searching by location as well as display of the most recently added and updated vlogs. All in all, it’s an intriguing look into an active group of creators – all tied together by the map.

Sounds an awful lot like Frappr! with video… (http://www.frappr.com/)
That’s what I thought, too. What impressed me about thier application was that it’s tailored and built to appeal to just a certain segment of people, with additional care to have site extras that are appropriate to the sites purpose.
We could think of Vlogmap.com as a vlogger community map with a frappr-style center. Frappr is a great service, but you, me, and everyone go to Frapper whereas the vlog-enabled and vlog-friendly would go to Vlogmap.com and get the meat of the subject. That’s what I feel makes the service notable per se.
