Small, web-based utility applies text / graphic effects to an image, and exports it to SVG.
I always thought SVG was a really cool graphic format. Scalable Vector Graphics that can be delivered over the web. It hasn’t been very long that SVG has been supported in web browsers, very few right now actually. Firefox 1.5 is one, but IE can with the Adobe SVG plugin. Adobe Illustrator has been able to export these vector graphics for a while now however. One vector graphic software Inkscape operates fully in SVG too.
I recently found out about a small web based utility that will take an image and create a really cool text / graphic effect and export it to SVG. http://textorizer.whatfettle.com
That scribbled looking image is actually an image of a helicopter with SVG vector output of text creating the outlines. I’ve not seen a way to do this effect in Illustrator, Freehand or others, but this web tool does it instantaneously, even gives you options to change things up a bit.
Once you go to the Textorizer site, you just need to locate the web address of an image. Paste the link in and see the textorized result. If you are inclined to use this effect in a project, you can save the resulting page as a .svg file. Then open it in illustrator to work on further. My helicopter picture turned out great.
I recommend using firefox 1.5 and trying out this cool little tool.
