The “Authority on The War Between The Publishing Giants™” introduces new current look, new future outlook

The New Look QVI

Since 2002, wired desingers have known that the one place they can go to get the most meaningful news on the battle between the reigning DTP titans, Quark, Inc and Adobe Systems, has been through Pariah S. Burke’s QuarkVsInDesign.com (QVI). Billing itself “The Authority on The War Between The Publishing Giants”, the site has chronicled the rise of Adobe’s flagship, InDesign, the travails of quondam DTP king QuarkXPress, and the transformation of what was once a field with one standard application into a competitive market where the users get the end goodies.

With the impending release of CS3 in 2007 and the new QuarkXPress 7, it’s clear that the DTP and digital design field is not standing still. Neither is QVI. Publisher Burke has provided QVI with a fresh, new look with the accent on new features and services, all driven by the wants and needs of the most important part of QVI–its readership.

A Popularity Contest: More, more, more

Beginning February 2006, publisher Burke asked the readership what they liked, what they didn’t like, what worked for them, and what they valued. From the responses to the survey came a new attitude and a new look–and an expanded mission.

QVI’s had served very well up until that point, but readers wanted more. According to Burke, they’ll get more:

…you’ll get more of everything. More feature articles, more tutorials, more news, more reviews, and, of course, more editorials.

Along with this comes a new navigation system designed to let the rushed info-seeker get in, find it, and get productive. Supporting this new attitude is a change in style from the blog-type listing to a home pages centered on headlines and categories. Supporting this major style change is a rethinking of the home page’s colors and background, and improved printing capabilities.

QVI–To the Future, and Beyond

A host of new features are also being added to support the interest of the trade now and the needs of the trade going forward; more news on InCopy, more tips, tricks and advice, and even a new “Tip O’ The Day”.

More than this is the expanded remit of QVI, with the ambition of not just being the authority on the War but the overall authority on the publishing giants. With it’s new attitude, Quark Vs InDesign means to go places, and invites everyone who wants a trustworthy guide through the War and beyond to follow along.
