Benefits include newsletters and your own gallery page
I recently wrote about color bias theory, the concept that paints in primary colors are not pure and that by being aware of the bias of your primary colors (how yellow your blue is, for instance) that color mixing becomes less of a gamble and more of a logical process.
Color theorist and artist Michael Wilcox, through his book Blue and Yellow Don’t Make Green has, from my personal point of view, done as much if not more than anyone to popularize and explain this concept. His company, the School of Color, offers his books, products and training to help artists use the system and for certifying instructors. These services and products, of course, come with prices.
Membership in The School of Color, however, is absolutely free.
Membership confers at least two benefits which just about every artist can use. Within one-two weeks of becoming a member, you’ll get a mailing containg a Wilcox newsletter and catalog. The catalog will give you a good idea of the School’s offerings without, of course, having to switch on your computer (and we’ve always loved just looking though art-supply catalogs–it’s a visceral thing. Beyond words). Of even more value, though, is that The School of Color provides absolutely free gallery websites, for communicating with the rest of the School community, for showing off your works, or for self-promotion.
To become a member of The Michael Wilcox School of Color, follow this link to their homepage and click on “Free Membership”; to view the member’s galleries, click the “Members Pages” link.
