AppleInsider.com announced the rumor earlier that the long-awaited CS3 may be released as a public beta. Now they say that Photoshop CS3 itself will be released as a beta on Friday, December 15, 2006. Will it happen?

Big news from AppleInsider.com: Photoshop CS3 will be released this Friday as a public beta free for download and tryout. This is exciting news for every Mac user waiting for CS3 before purchasing new computers (the current Intel flavor of Macintosh does not play well with current Adobe products, which are designed to work with PowerPC Macs). AppleInsider.com also has some really interesting things to report about the new Photoshop:

  • The software supposedly “simply screams” with the Intel chips, which is a welcome change of pace from what Photoshop CS2 currently does on Macs
  • The public beta will be Photoshop CS3 Standard—Adobe will be releasing a Photoshop CS3 Advanced in the future, with specialized tools for power users in the science and video industries.
  • Photoshop CS3 Advanced will also have an updated Vanishing Point filter, HDR and 3-D file support, among other things that suggest Advanced will also benefit pro photo and creative pro users
  • In order to use the Photoshop CS3 beta, you will need a valid serial number from Creative Suite 2

Keep an eye out at Adobe Labs for the big delivery! Of course, it could all be a rumor and unfounded, but AppleInsider.com is often reliable and all signs point to “yes”.
