Photoshop Jargon: Aliasing

“Aliasing,” also known as jaggies or pixellation, occurs when bitmap images are enlarged or printed with low resolution and the pixels that make up the image are apparent. It is very apparent when fonts are printed as bitmaps; their fine details show up as building blocks.

  1. I’ve always had problems with that term. For some reason, aliasing has always implied rather the opposite to me. Counter-intuitive.
