It was revealed by AppleInsider back on 18 September 2006 that the “preview” of Photoshop CS3 at PhotoshopWorld in Las Vegas actually did not show any new features of the application:

‘During the Photoshop World keynote, Adobe’s Sr. Vice President of Creative Solutions provided a quick look at Photoshop CS3, apparently running on an Intel-based Mac,’ PiperJaffray analyst Gene Munster wrote in a note to clients on Monday. ‘While the presentation did not reveal any of the CS3 features, it provided evidence that the company has already successfully moved this core application to the Intel-Mac platform.’

While disappointing, it wasn’t unexpected since CS3 has already been talked about being released in the first or second quarter of 2007. Still, PhotoshopWorld is the biggest Photoshop event of its kind (this one was the largest of all previous PhotoshopWorld events in terms of attendance) and we all hoped a glimpse of new features would be shown. Side note: the next PhotoshopWorld will be in Boston in early April.

The AppleInsider article also makes mention of the announcement of Creative Suite 2.3, which has two major changes from the previous iteration of CS2:

  • Acrobat has been updated to version 8, which hasn’t made a lot of waves quite yet but will soon due to its expanded family of software products and redeveloped interface (which I’m particularly keen about). I am preparing an article on Acrobat 8, stay tuned for more information.
  • Dreamweaver (currently in version 8) is now a part of Creative Suite 2. While it’s unclear whether GoLive will remain a part of CS2 as well, it’s pretty unlikely it is not. Adobe plans to retain it but probably only as a standalone product; I’ve heard rumors it may end up something of a prosumer piece of software, maybe closer to Apple’s iWeb than Dreamweaver.

CS2.3 is only being preordered at the moment; it’s expected to ship in next three months, according to AppleInsider.
