This edition: MyFonts’ Latest–Making it even easier for Wintel users to get fonts; The LinoLetter 2006-04;
MyFonts has nominated thier Rising Stars for this month, with three very intriguing offerings.
The feature font Treasury isn’t touted as a font so much as it’s being described as a system. MyFonts’ own copy cites the maker’s use of a very depended-on modern digital design concept–layering–to create a font system that has a veritable armload of alternates. The font itself comes in 23 weights and lives up to its billing, and “elegant banknote font.” Pictures in this case speak louder than mere words; surf this link to a PDF gallery that will open your eyes to the possiblities. The two other wantworthy Rising Stars include Floral Ornaments, a collection of 114 ornaments insipred by Chinese cut paper flower designs and “dearJoe 4“, a handwriting font by JOEBOB graphics that features connecting characters, and is charming besides.
The other innovation is MyFonts’ just-announced Automated Windows Fonts Installer. This is a new feature of Downloads that presents the user with an “Install Fonts In Windows” button that, when clicked, automatically installs the just-purchased fonts with no further action required on the user’s part.
Neat.
Linotype is back with it’s monthly email letter. Of note this time; Four New OpenType Collections; They’re gone on Gothic; Notec, a fun inky handwriting font; and “Fonts In Use”, a new way of showing you how fonts look…well, in use.

FontHaus puts art up front this month with Phat Fonts, a new collection with modern and edgy fonts with names such as Equalizer and Demented Avenger, and the fonts of Dennis Ortiz-Lopez.
You won’t recognize the name, perhaps, but you will recognize the fonts; he designed all the fonts used on the cover of the Rolling Stone (as well as inside) and more than a few others, including US, Windows User, and Elle. Sorry, Wintellers, right now his fonts are avaialabe in Mac format only.
See you next issue. Remember, if there’s anything interesting you think we can use, tip us off!
