Electric Rain has announced the release of Swift 3D 5, which boasts quite a few new features:
- Mesh Morphing Animations: Morph the underlying 3D mesh of objects
- Enhanced User Interface: Sleeker and more functional
- Keyframe Easing: New easing controls to smooth out position, rotation, and scaling transitions
- Built-in Optimization: A new user-controlled post-render interface that allows you to reduce file sizes by half
- Drag / Drop Animation Visuals: New drag-and-drop animation visuals give you an at-a-glance view of pre-defined animation paths and rotations
- Per Object Line Options: Apply individual line styles and colors to individual objects within your 3D scene
- Undo Restructuring: Unlimited undo operations across editing environments
- HTML /w SWF Export: A new export option that embeds your SWF into an HTML page
- .3ds Export: All materials, lighting, and animation are exported, and integrates with Photoshop CS3 Extended
- Export to XAML for WPF and Silverlight: Export frame-by-frame animation in XAML format for use in Silverlight

Like I said earlier, so far version 5 is for Windows only—Mac users must be satisfied with version 4.5 until later this year, when version 5 is scheduled to be released. The good news is that it’s to be released in Q4 2007, which we’ve just entered, so expect this to be available within a month or two! I will try to get my hands on a review copy and will report my experiences here, so stay tuned.
