Skill to write well and within a structure. Designorati is a convergence between blog network and magazine, merging the most important elements of traditional media with blogging to forge something fast but accurate, something independent but accountable, a medium with a strong voice but equally strong integrity. Although Designorati writers are self-directed and self-editing, it is more organized and structured than a typical blog. There is a basic style guide to follow, and there are standards of journalistic ethics on par with any print magazine.
Designorati publishes articles not blog posts. There is a difference in the readers’ eyes, and there is a difference when it comes to writers’ skill.
Ability to work within a team. Designorati is team-based, with each writer having a voice in its operation and editorial voice. And each team member builds genuine equity within the company. After one year on staff earning a share of revenue, each Designorati writer is considered for partnership within, and ownership of, Designorati itself. Therefore it is critical that each writer be able to work effectively within the team, respecting her team mates, and pulling her own weight, in order to become an effective partner who helps define and continue the Designorati brand.
