Where did you buy your mp3s? I could tell you that you have probably purchased them from iTunes and I’d be correct 85 times out 100

Retail sales have gone sky high for Apple with a revenue of $1 billion from their stores in the last quarter, 850 million songs purchased through the iTunes store, equal to an 85% market share, and 100 iPods sold every minute of the day 24/7, which add up to 14 million total. Apple’s total revenue for the last quarter? A stunning $5.7. Jobs opened the Macworld conference boasting these figures—the least you can say is that people like music, and that Apple knows how to get it to them.

Missed Your Team’s Bowl Match?

Apple thought doesn’t stop at music. Since just 90 days ago they have started to sell TV shows and 8 million have already been purchased. Do you like sport? You can watch 15 minutes highlights of all 4 VCS bowl games on your iPod. And if you like your Saturday Night Live skits, you can get them too. Who needs TVs anymore? Yet this is not all, expect more content coming soon, because there will be plenty.

Jobs announced also a new accessory, an iPod remote that is also an FM tuner. It works with iPod Nano and iPod 5th generation and it allows you to both control your iPod and listen to the radio—you just clip it on your clothes and away you listen.

Now you can watch TV shows, your sport games, Saturday Night Live skits and listen to the radio. What else could you ask? Aside from a coffee making iPod there’s very little left. Well, not really. Starting with Chrysler’s announcement, by 2006 40% of the cars in the US will be fitted for iPod integration.

Steve Jobs ended Apple’s achievements parade showing an ad with music by Jazz musician Winton Marsalis—seems like Apple is moving forward with genre themed ads. Currently, they’re running hip-hop inspired advertisements. I expect to see rock and r&b flavored ads soon.
